An ancient prophecy foretold of a child born in the city of Flabbernathy with a compass-shaped birthmark, who would grow up to be the greatest Wizard ever known. You have a birthmark like that, but at first you were only a sort of okay Wizard. Everyone has to start somewhere, I guess.

As luck would have it, as you were passing through the land of Fandanzia, you stopped at the inn in the quiet hamlet of Foobar, and heard the local bard talking about the ancient ruin that the town had (perhaps ill-advisedly) been built next to, and the fantastic Emerald Idol of Vampireside that was purported to be hidden there. Without bothering to ask why nobody had managed to recover it already, you set out on your very first quest.

You weren't having any problems until you got your arm caught in a awkward conversation and had to gnaw it off to escape. Fortunately, you don't need that to be a hero... but you will sort of miss it.

Fortunately, "giving up" isn't in your dictionary (probably because it's two words), so you persevered. You fought your way through countless bullywugs and barbarians -- even a cockatrice! But eventually you found the lair of the sinister Ice Sorcerer Skullcarve, and were able to defeat him by knocking him into a swinging razor-sharp pendulum with a lucky critical hit. Bruised but successful, you made it back to the nearby city of Schmalbion and claimed your reward.
